Saturday Workshop March 21st

courier in orange works for me...

I'm posting the agenda to make sure you are up to speed with what's happening with the Video Residency and to report that Gabriel and Joe did some great shooting in the gallery on the weekend, working through white balance, exposure, sound recording and many other details of working with the camera. I'll be posting their short video this week. Also it would be great to know where you are all at with your projects, so post songs, treatments, images and plans to the blog!

WORKSHOP 4
Camera & Sound
March 21st, 2009

12:30pm Check IN and listening session
1:30pm Shot by shot analysis of Matt Wolf's 'Wild Combination' and/or John Hugh's 'Pretty In Pink' - A shot by shot analysis entails looking at each cut in an edit and identifying composition, camera movement (zoom, pan, tilt, tracking etc...) Pretty In Pink employs, a classical cinematic device, continuity editing as a technique. Wild Combination is a documentary that employs a lot of experimental scene construction using voice over and talking head interviews to structure the edit.
2:30pm Camera and Sound Tech. Review & Assignment
Make a short video up to three minutes in length. Work in teams of two. Try to work with a technique or theme related to your project. Be sure to white balance, expose correctly using the iris and shutter, check sound levels and plan your shoot carefully so that you can edit in camera.
5:00pm Check OUT by screening works.

Before next session: Tell us about your process on the blog! Write and/or story board your 3rd draft of your video proposal. And check out these links (archive_prelinger, archive_audionew_NFB_film:RIP, open_source_cinema) to think about using copyright vs open source photos, audio or video for your project.
